[Shimmer-users] Shimmer3: can't get sampling rate > 340

I can't seem to get data from Shimmer3 at sampling rate higher than 340Hz.

I configured my Shimmer3 using the ShimmerCapture Android app and set the
sampling rate to 1024 but the data being saved to the file is at about
341Hz. When I set the sampling rate of the Shimmer3 to 512Hz, it actually
logs data at about 256Hz.

Any ideas on how to get higher sampling rates on Shimmer3? I am looking to
get 1024 Hz.

I have another Shimmer3 and I tried sampling at 1024 and 2048Hz on it too
but I get about 400 and 450Hz sampling rates. Or is it that both the
Shimmers have some hardware problem? Any ideas on what might be wrong or if
I'm missing something.

The Shimmer3 is running BT_Stream firmware version 0.5

thanks,
Shri

Hi Shri,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. May I ask as to what sensors you have
enabled on your Shimmer device?

Best regards,

Hi Jong,

I have Low noise accelerometer, wide range accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer enabled. I also have enabled battery voltage.

thanks,

Hi Shri,

Unfortunately with the number of sensor channels and the sampling rate
you are using this wont be possible.

There are two limiting factors. The first is the Shimmer baud rate. The
default baud rate is 115200, I would suggest increasing it to 230400,
you should be able to do this using Shimmer Capture which can be found
here
<http://www.shimmersensing.com/support/wireless-sensor-networks-download>.

The second limiting factor is your Android device (/not being able to
consume data fast enough causing a bottleneck which results in dropped
data/). This probably varies across Android device.

My advice will be to increase the baud rate, reduce the sampling rate,
and reduce the number of sensors (e.g. choose a single accelerometer). I
hope that help. Please do note hesitate to contact Shimmer
<http://www.shimmersensing.com/support/wearable-sensing-support/>if you
require further technical assistance.

Hi Jong,

Your advice worked. With single accelerometer I am able to get 2048 Hz.
Reducing the number of sensors to accelerometer and gyroscope I am able to
get 512Hz, which is sufficient for my application right now.

Thank you.

best,
Shri
